Wellington County: Black Heritage Reclaimed Driving Map

The Wellington County: Black Heritage Reclaimed Driving Map highlights some of the places of significance to the historical Black community in Wellington County including the Queen’s Bush. This map will allow you to drive around Wellington County and learn the stories of the Black settlers. You will be able to see the locations of former settlements, homesteads and churches – which unfortunately are now just fields of corn. While many of the locations identified on the map no longer exist, we take the time to honour and remember the lives and the contributions these families made to our community. At the GBHS we will continue to share these stories as it is our mission to remember the forgotten and amplify their voices. We encourage you to connect, learn and grow and explore the stories of the Black community in our area.
